DESCRIPTION:
Construction of this 150-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel is anticipated to commence in May 2011. The proposed 7-story Hotel will be constructed with approximately 14,100 square feet of retail space on the ground floor of the hotel. The hotel’s lobby, amenities and common areas will be located on the second floor with guestrooms on floors three through seven. This hotel is a being developed in a joint venture with Tucker Development Corporation and an affiliate of the New Jersey Devils (NHL) hockey club.
Structured parking for the hotel will be provided in the adjacent parking garage that was developed in conjunction with the Prudential Center, the recently completed $375-million arena which is home to the Devils hockey team.
The property is located approximately three blocks from Newark Penn Station, which provides frequent service to and from Manhattan, NY. The property is also just south of downtown Newark’s major office concentration and is just north of the government area including City Hall, the Newark Police Department and the Peter W. Rodino Federal Office Building.
The hotel will sit within close proximity to the four universities in the area: Rutgers University (which includes Rutgers Law School), The New Jersey Institute of Technology, Essex County College, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. In addition, Seton Hall Law School is located approximately five blocks to the north of the hotel site.
